The AU EGL scholarship covers all billable expenses at American University, including full tuition, room, and board.
The scholarship does not cover non-billable expenses such as health insurance, books, airline tickets, taxes, and
miscellaneous expenses, approximately U.S. $4,000 per year. It is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study based on satisfactory academic performance.
Applicants must be international students needing a non-immigrant visa (F-1 or J-1 student visa) to study in the U.S. They must not be U.S. citizens, U.S. permanent residents, or dual citizens of the U.S. and another country. Eligibility is limited to those who have not begun post-secondary studies at another university and have graduated secondary school no earlier than 2022.
A minimum 3.8 GPA equivalent (or top 10% of the graduating class) and proven commitment to leadership and community service are required. English proficiency scores from TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English, PTE, or Cambridge Assessment English are also necessary.
Applicants must complete the AU EGLS application on the Future Eagle Portal by December 15, 2023, and submit a bank letter confirming a minimum of U.S. $4,000.
Official English proficiency scores must be sent directly to American University by the testing agency. The Common Application or Coalition Application, along with all supporting documents, must be submitted by January 15, 2024.
If applying through EducationUSA or as a FLEX or YES high school scholarship recipient, a letter from an EducationUSA adviser is required. Semi-finalists and finalists may need to attend Zoom interviews or submit additional essays.
